THIS SITE IS DEDICATED TO HONOR THE MEMORY OF ALL THE  PONS OF SHAGGI PONS KENNEL AND ALL THE PUPPIES WHO WERE SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART OF MY LIFE .  IT IS ALSO DEDICATED TO SHADOW WHO NOW LIVES WITH ME AS ONE OF MY VERY BEST FRIENDS !  IT IS ALSO DEDICATED TO THOSE WHO BOUGHT PUPPIES FROM ME AND TOOK SUCH GREAT CARE OF THEM THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES.

ON THIS PAGE ARE SHOWN MY GREATEST TEACHERS.  IT IS ALSO DEDICATED TO BETTY AUGUSTOWSKI WITHOUT WHOM THIS BREED WOULD NEVER HAD BEEN  INTRODUCED INTO THIS COUNTRY AND ADMITTED INTO AKC...AND I THANK HER FOR MY VERY FIRST PON, KORBY, HELPING ME TO LEARN ABOUT BREEDING AND SHOWING (SOMETHING I NEVER EXPECTED TO DO) AND HELPING THE EIGHT OF US PUT TOGETHER THE PON PARENT CLUB STARTING BACK IN 1987.

Along the edges are some pictures  of Polish Lowland Sheepdogs  shown first as puppies and then as adults. Polish Lowland Sheepdog puppies may remain the same color, may lighten, or may even darken some as they become elderly.  When you buy a puppy there is no guarantee as to color outcome. Some black puppies at the age of one become almost completely white.  It's like owning two or more PONS during their life... and fun to watch the changes. Pon breeders will probably have pictures they can share with you of how their PON puppies have changed over their lives.

What is a PON Puppy?

PON  puppies are Polish LowlandSheepdog puppies and they are a small replica of what the adult will more than likely become in a few quick weeks:  observant, curious, intelligent, stubborn, manipulative, mischievious, loyal, clown,  intuitive, and sometimes even a challenge.

It is a great breed for those who can say no and who can take the lead  as to what puppies  should or should not be doing.  The owner must take control from the beginning.   Polish  Sheepdog  puppies,  as they are sometimes called, are great family pets, great companions, need a medium amount of exercise, adapt to just about any living situation, and will be your very best friend(s) for life. Pon puppies are also known as PONS, Polski Owcarek Nizinny,  and the Polish herding dog. Pon breeders will often refer to them as PONS.

HINT:  Orignally from the hills of Poland, these  puppies are adorable little balls of fur.  It is important that you remember this highly intelligent breed will become a full grown  PON who will have a mind of its own.  Your training to get the PON puppies to become the adult you want is to use training that is fair, firm, consistent , and positive.

Breeders are varied and many.  Some  breeders  are more interested in showing than others and what titles can be earned. Some breeders are interested in obedience, fly ball, agility, and other performance actitivities. Some are interested in just selling puppies.  Some may be happy that you are not interested in showing or breeding.

It is my belief the best  breeders are most interested in placing their Polish Lowland Sheepdog  puppies in a good and permanent home where they will be loved and cherished. Other considerations are secondary.

PON breeders should want to take time to get to know you and you them before selling you a puppy. On the next pages are some pieces of information you should be discussing wth the  breeders  as you speak to or visit them.  Visits are best when possible.    Making the right choice from among the PON breeders is an very important choice.  You want someone who will stand by you and help you should any problems arise!.  Check over the rest of this site carefully to get help in choosing the right breeder!  E mail or blog should you have any questions.

NAME HISTORY:   Prior to coming to America was known as the Polish Owczarek Nizinny.  When the breed went into AKC it became known as the Polish Lowland Sheepdog.   The original name led to the names PON or PONS as the breed is now often called because it was easier than saying Polish Owczarek Nizinny.    Sometimes for the sake of being concise you will hear the breed called the Polish Sheepdog.   Polish Lowland Sheepdog  puppies are often called by neat little names like  "fuzz ball",   "fluff ball," etc.  What ever they are called they will quickly endear themselves to you and you will no doubt have a PON that is unique, a puppy  that will develop into a full grown adult PON that will be like no other dog you ever have or will own.  People will ask ,"How are they different?" and you will be hardpressed to explain, but they are very different than most dogs.  Maybe it is because until most recent times they were out there herding in the field and not raised to be show dogs.

1st U.S. Ch...SKC Ch Europa Casimer z Elzbieta CD

Cas was a very special PON.  He is pictured above as a young puppy who was extremely sweet and lovable. However, there is much more to his story.   He went to a home where he was neglected. Left untrained and unsocialized he became very aggressive , flea infested , weak and more.  His road to recovery was a long one but one of the good stories...he became the first champion in both conformation and obedience.    Be sure to ask the right questions, whether you are the buyer or the breeder?  Make sure the match is the right one.   For more about Cas visit the puppy training page (con't) at

People often ask about grooming.  As stated on the grooming page listed above the PON must be completely brushed out at least once a week.  However, if you are not showing and cannot do this, rather than let the coat become matted a health hazzard you may choose to consider a puppy cut.  Below is a 6 year old PON in puppy cut.
