PON PUPPY BUYERS GUIDE

BREEDERS OF MERIT plus

Do NOT be misled because a breeder has AKC's Breeders of Merit connected to it.  Breeders of Merit basically shows that a kennel or its owners have been actively involved in AKC.  It does not necessarily mean that the person socializes well, trains well  for home pets, keeps there breeding stock in the best of conditions, etc. Polish Lowland Sheepdog puppies require much involvement between the Pon breeders and new owner before they even leave their home if they are to grow up to be well adapted Polish Lowland Sheepdog puppies and adults.   The five requirements for being a breeder of Merit as stated on the AKC site are the following:

1.  Has a history of at least 5 years involvement with AKC events

2.  Earned at least 4 Conformation, Performance or Companion

event titles on dogs the bred/co-bred

3.  Member of an AKC club

4.  Certifies that applicable health screens are performed on your

breeding stock as recommended by the parent club--hips should be

with OFA or Penn Hip and the eyes should have Cerf Certification.

5.  Demonstrates a committment to ensuring 100% of the puppies

     produced are AKC registered.

NOTE: The bottom line is you must ask the right questions, hear the right questions, and trust yourself if there are any questions.  Never be fooled by any certificates, titles, etc., that a kennel my or may not have.  Health certificates of the parents should be readily available, plus any puppy check up results.  PON breeders must be available to socialize their young puppies.  Polish Lowland Sheepdog puppies left to adapt on their own often will not adapt to new situations, sounds, experiences , etc. A puppy's future life begins with the PON breeder long before you bring the new puppy home.
Can't wait...a new home soon as I leave the Netherlands and move to Canada!
Rule of Thumb
Socialize and train and and you will have a great adult PON .   These adorable little bundles of fur learn very quickly you think they are cute and they will  quickly learn to manipulate you if you let them.  I say from the very beginning..."Don't let them do anything as a puppy you don't want them to do as an adult!"  It is easier to train properly than to try and break a bad habit later.  And because they are so cute as you can see, they will use this to get their way.  Don't let them outsmart you!  They are very smart and have a very long term memory as many a PON owner can tell you.
Shaggy asks, " Is this really another dog?" Curious they are!
